In my last post of I talked about 3 critical keys to getting anything you want in life: a crystal clear picture of what you want, an unshakable belief, and persistent and consistent action.
Let’s talk about the first key today, that is, getting a SUPER clear, emotional vision of EXACTLY what you want.
Lemme ask you as question: do you even know what you want?
And don’t say : “Amit, I wanna make some money!”
Come on, that’s lame.
You need to pinpoint EXACTLY what’s motivating you. Do you want to: quit your job, buy a home, travel the world while running your business off your laptop, send your kids to private school?
Really identify what your hot button is. Once you’ve done that you need to start figuring out exactly what the vision is going to look like.
Here’s 1 of 3 technique (I’ll talk about the other techniques in future posts):
#1 WRITE IT OUT
Here’s the idea: whatever it is you want you’ve got to write out a story in vivid detail, including as many of the senses as you can, a moment that represents you achieving that goal. Just thinking about this goal should get you SUPER excited, the more detail you add into your story the BETTER.
My burning desire was to quit my job, so I wrote out my PERFECT day that I would enjoy AFTER I had quit my job and was financially free.
Here’s a few other ideas on how you can do this:
- If your goal is to quit your job, you could also write out the resignation letter your gonna hand your boss and make a few copies of it and put it somewhere you can see it everyday. (don’t be stupid and show it to your boss, until you’re ready to resign!)
- Now, if your boss is a real jerk, write out how you’re gonna play a prank on your boss – I mean some REALLY funny shit that will have all your co-workers on the ground laughing, and will get you fired and escorted by security out of the building. LOL – that’s how my friend Jeff did it after he made double his job income through affiliate marketing JUST 4 months from the day he started – true story!
- Now if your goal is to get a new 3000 sq ft home then your vision should be you at your housewarming party barbecuing in the backyard sharing some laughs with friends who are congratulating you on your new beautiful home.
- If you want a Porsche Boxer then imagine the feeling of putting the key into the ignition and feeling and hearing the engine purr. Write out how you would take your new baby for a test drive at 120mph at 3am in the morning on the highway. How is that gonna feel?
Be creative; make the vision a moment you’re living that represents the epitome of you achieving your goal.
Oh yeah, make sure to write your vision in the present tense, as if it’s happening NOW (I’ll explain later why this is important).
You may be thinking: “OK, Amit this sound great, but what’s the deal here? Why is doing this CRITICALLY important??”
It all has to do with your subconscious mind, which is 1000X more powerful than your conscious mind. Without getting too deep here (otherwise I’ll get confused as well), your subconscious mind operates on emotion and imagery and it can’t tell the difference between a real event and one that is VIVIDLY imagined.
(that’s why you need to write your story in present tense)
Once you program your subconscious mind vividly enough and with enough emotion it will start working 24/7 to make your goal a reality.
You’ll come up with brilliant ideas, start making decisions, and taking actions that will lead you to your goal with the accuracy of a tomahawk missile – as long as this vision is BACKED with absolute belief (I’ll get into how to develop that later.)
Here’s your homework assignment, take 15 minutes to do this right NOW : Write out your vision, your moment of glory, the super exciting moment that strongly represents you hitting your goal. Make sure it’s at LEAST 500 words.
Now you may be thinking one of 2 things at this point:
- “Entourage is about to come on, I don’t got time for this motivation fluff right now. Yeah you did this and got rich, maybe I’ll get around to doing it this week.”
- “Amit, I’m serious about taking action and changing my life. I’m going to invest the next 15 minutes to writing out my vision because I know this is the first step to achieving great success and I can’t afford to put this off.”
Choice is yours.
Stay tuned for more tips (and homework assignments!) on creating a powerful vision.
Hi Amit,
Can you share what was your “vision”? I know that you wanted to quit your job. Was that your goal? Your pinnacle of what success was for you?
Mine is the day I wake up in the morning and know I can go back to sleep because I’m financially, mentally and emotionally free to finally live life. It all begins with Gratitude.
Onwards and Upwards,
Anthony
Amazing stuff, Amit
I took action & applied this method just now & trust me there is something pushing me from inside to complete my tasks asap, I don’t know what is it… Wow, this is amazing, thanks a lot Amit
I am unable to explain how good I am feeling now, wow! this is awesome!!
You are a great teacher Amit..
One small request: Amit if possible please explain us this method in video, I am sure that would be more effective…
Kind Regards,
Taqi A
Amit,
This is like Napolean Hill came back from his grave and pushing us to take action.
Thanks.
I agree with Raj! I have read TAGR many times, but it is just awesome of you to share this information and teach it with a 21st century approach. Much gratitude to you for doing this. You are always a great source of inspiration.
Warmly,
Debbie
Since i first read this theory in your e-book i am working on it. i can tell you that it works.
Amit,
Very good actions to take, I think this approach has helped me as well. I also think having much gratitude for the things we already have is important as well, although my freedom from a job is the “end all” for me as well. Thanks again for your motivational words!
Amit I LOVED the blog post, great stuff.
But I need your help; I can’t think of a defining moment that I can get emotional about. I mean I have tried this strategy for 2 years I just don’t think I have enough detail, or perhaps I tend not to recall the scene regularily enough. Basically I don’t have a benchmark to which I can compare my scene and I tend to only generate the burning desire for very short spurts of time.
Could you perhaps share your image, the level of detail you pictured – the attached emotions?
I created an actual digital picture of all the things that made up my scene of success and hung it in front of my bed, it worked amazingly well for several weeks and I actually managed to achieve a few things: new car, full time internet income and roughly the exact conversation I was having with someone in the scene. But eventually it became background and I started rolling back down the hill again – how often would you recall your image/scene? Did you do it daily? In the mornings? How can I ensure I break through the tipping point? Are there any tools to help me to remember/ live the scene more consistently and for longer periods of time?
I have no problem taking action on a need (need to make a full time living online) – I did that, but find it somewhat harder on a want ( want a £1m p/a so I don’t have to work?), any advice? How do I change a want to a need?
Thanks for the fantastic advice and energetic blog posts -
Great post Amit. Learning a lot of stuff from your blog and feeling great after writing down my goals in detail. Thanks for sharing
